The Yoga Studio Workshops and Updates

We hope this finds you sipping tea and staying warm, even as the wet weather has arrived.  The heat is on here at The Yoga Studio - so come join us in the yellow room to keep the body and mind energized and calm through the dark winter months.

There are a few upcoming events and some schedule changes to take note of for the first few weeks of November.
1. Meditation Evening - Lisa Elander will join us on Monday October 19th at 7 p.m. for an evening of meditation, with an opportunity for questions and discussion.  Suggested Donation $5-10. 
2. Mindfullness and Meditation - Alex Trisoglio will return on Sunday October 25th for a day long workshop from 10 a.m until 4:30 p.m. The day will included periods of sitting and walking meditation, 2 mindfullness movement sessions, discussion and questions.  For more details feel free to ask us or check out the website.  All are welcome - please register in advance to reserve a place. Investment $60
3.  Lydia and Sarah will be travelling to study in Boulder, Colorado with Richard Freeman in November.  We have some wonderful teachers who will be covering while we are gone - check out the teachers page of our website for more information.  We have attached a PDF of a modified schedule that will be in effect from Thursday, October 28th until Friday, November 13th.  We thank you in advance for your understanding and look forward to returning from our studies with more creative ideas, energy and smiles for the winter months ahead.  Please feel free to contact us by email while we are gone - as we will miss the little yellow room and the community that is taking shape.

Thai Massage Practitioner Training Program Starts Oct.29th

At the heart of any healing modality lies the ability to remain present.  Thai massage teaches us how.   

This is a way to learn to honor the client's expression of health with the integrity of movement, through the contrast of dynamic resistance and letting go.

Thai massage offers a way to blend structural alignment in stretching with energy flow, breath and rhythmic acupressure massage.  It's a meditative way to 

channel and direct healing, both in the process of receiving and providing.

About Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese relaxation and healing technique. Reiki means Universal life energy. A Reiki practitioner allows the flow of Reiki energy through their body, out their hands and into the client's body. A Reiki session takes place on a massage table. The client is fully clothed and the practitioner uses a series of hand positions either directly on or just above the client's body. The experience is very relaxing and relieving of stress; it is not uncommon for the client to fall asleep.

 

Benefits of Reiki

During a state of complete relaxation, Reiki can work its healing on deeper levels as it does not require conscious effort to heal. All the client needs to do is relax, be open to receiving the energy and healing and enjoy. Reiki helps to clear blockages within the body's energy systems and meridians for deeper healing. For the purpose of healing emotions Flower Essences work well with Reiki as they help clear specific blocks and balance emotions.
 

Reiki is beneficial to anyone looking to relax and reduce stress and improve their emotional health. This form of healing is gentle and safe but very effective. It is great for people of all ages including elders, children and babies. Also great for pets!

Reiki for Everyone Workshop

This workshop will teach you how to tune into your own natural healing ability. Each week a learn a new technique that can be used with or without Reiki.

Such as:

• Power up healing by receiving a group Reiki Healing attunement. Reiki brings relaxation, calm and natural healing. This session is like receiving a strong Reiki treatment.
• Be guided through a unique meditation that is designed to ground and align your bodies energy system.
• Choose a flower essence to take.

Great for everyone as no experience is necessary.

There is no life as we know it without salt.  No cell and no organism can exist without salt. 

1. An eight-year study of a New York City hypertensive population stratified for sodium intake levels found those on low-salt diets had more than four times as many heart attacks as those on normal-sodium diets – the exact opposite of what the “salt hypothesis” would have predicted. (1995)

2.  An analysis by NHLBI’s Dr. Cutler of the first six years’ data from the MRFIT database documented no health outcomes benefits of lower-sodium diets. (1997)

3.  A ten-year follow-up study to the huge Scottish Heart Health Study found no improved health outcomes for those on low-salt diets. (1997)

4.  An analysis of the health outcomes over twenty years from those in the massive US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES I) documented a 20% greater incidence of heart attacks among those on low-salt diets compared to normal-salt diets (1998)

5.  A health outcomes study in Finland, reported to the American Heart Association that no health benefits could be identified and concluded “…our results do not support the recommendations for entire populations to reduce dietary sodium intake to prevent coronary heart disease.” (1998)

6.  A further analysis of the MRFIT database, this time using fourteen years’ data, confirmed no improved health benefit from low-sodium diets. Its author conceded that there is "no relationship observed between dietary sodium and mortality." (1999)

All this means that there is no scientific proof that tells you to reduce salt in your diet… for the general population you will be less at risk to heart attacks or strokes if you don’t reduce it… 

Also, read this… In 1999, the Canadian Hypertension Society, the Canadian Coalition for High Blood Pressure Prevention and Control, the Health Canada Laboratory Centre for Disease Control and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada issued a joint statement going against the general recommendations for sodium reduction.

This means that they believe that minimizing the amount of salt in your meals is not the way to go… so feel good about using salt… you’re doing yourself good… and when you use salt make sure you’re using the purest and most health promoting salt on the planet… Himalayan Crystal Salt…

Would you have ever thought hearing this kind of statement from unexpected sources?  Well, sooner or later the truth has to come through… :-)
